259 Babies born in Mt.Vernon Since First of Year
Birth of an unusually large number of babies since the first of
the year has added to the population of Mt.Vernon, Dodds,and Shiloh township.
During the nine and half month period,259 births have occurred in the city
of Mt Vernon and 99 have been born in the rural areas according to the vitals
stats at the city clerks office.
Birthdays in the three townships area total 358.
During the same period only 176 deaths have occurred, 133 of them in city.
Sleeping Rooms Needed Here
Due to a large number of visitors attending the National
Field Futurity Meet the week of October 31st to November 6th, sleeping rooms
in private homes are needed.
Persons having sleeping rooms to rent for the week are requested to call the
Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce, telephone number 102.
Damage Caused by Halloween Pranks Here
Mt Vernon police today warned the city's youngsters against premature
Halloween pranks.
An outbreak of such pranks during the last few days has resulted in numerous
complaints to the police dept. and in many cases they were reports of property
damage.
For example,this week,the windows of a store building on south 10th was broken
by a thrown rock and last night a rock shattered a window of a home on south 18th
street. Officers said that many complaints were of boys throwing empty tin cans at
cars and houses.
