John David Breeze
John David Breeze was born in Farrington township July 27, 186?. He married Cassie
Cruzen, daughter of Franklin and Nancy Cruzen November 29, 1880. They were the parents
of eleven children: Charles David (1881-1925) married Leslie Ross October 6, 1905;
Lil1y Maud (1883-1973) married Frank Barton June 8, 1902; Heber Erman (1885-1972) married
Hazel Shields June 10, 1921; Grace (1887-1920) married Tom Sanders October 17, 1908;
Franklin Contelius (1889-1972) married Mary Phelps who died in 1917 and then married
Lulu Cook in 1919; Lester Wil1iam, b. Nov. 29,1893, married Meda Mil1er October 19, 1912;
Olive Myrtle b. July 28, 1891, never married; Ernest Vernon (1896-1967) married Jennie Nesbit
December 22, 1917; Nancy Letta, b. November 4, 1899, married Ceaton Bullock May 4,1919;
Anna May (1902-1969) married Ed. Harvey who died in 1935.
John David was assistant cashier at the Walnut Hil1 bank for several years prior to moving
to Dix in 1915. He owned and operated a grocery store at Dix and at Bel1e Rive at one time.
He was a Notary Public and Justice of the Peace. He was not a lawyer but did acquire a
great amount of law knowledge and helped others with his advice. He was on the Jefferson County
Board of Supervisors and served as chairman of the board in 1917. He was Superintendent of
Highways in Jefferson County from just after the first world war until the early thirties.
John David passed away on September 2, 1955.
