Isaac S. Boswell

Isaac Street Boswell, mention of whose death at Almyra, Ark., 
was made in Thursday's News, was born on Jan. 18, 1826, and was 
therefore a few days past 80 years of age.

He was a native of Alabama, but removed to Illinois when a mere 
child and has since made his home in this county, being for many 
years a successful farmer in Elk Prairie township.

When the war broke out he enlisted in the Union ranks and served 
with distinction, being a lieutenant in the 60th Illinois when he 
was mustered out.  

He ws united in marriage with Margaret J. Baker in the spring of 1850.  
This union was blessed with 11 children, nine of whom survived their 
father, as follows:  Mrs. G. G. Dalby, Mrs. Belle Black, Elk Prairie; 
Mrs. George Davis, Dix; Mrs. J. D. Reynolds, John Boswell, Centralia; 
Mrs. Emma Carpenter, Howell, Ind.; W. H. Boswell, Almyra, Ark.;
Sam P Boswell, Stuttgart, Ark., and Mrs. J. T. Kelley of this city.  
Two sisters survive him--Mrs. Mary Murray, of this city, and 
Mrs. Josia Hamilton, of Waltonville.

The remains were brought to Ina Saturday evening and the funeral and 
interment occurred at Hickory Hill, in Elk Prairie, at 1 o'clock Sunday 
afternoon, a large concourse of relatives and friends turning out to 
pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased.

Elk Prairie

Isaac Boswell, one of the old pioneers of this county, recectly died 
at the home of his son, Dr. Wm. Boswell, at Almyra, Ark.  Dr. Boswell 
accompanied the remains back to this prairie, where they were interred 
at Hickory Hill last Sunday.

TAPS SOUNDED 

"Isaac S. Boswell of this city while on a visit with his son 
Dr. W. H. Boswell, in Almyra, Ark., died Thursday April 5th.  
He was 80 years old, and was born in Alabama(?).  He was married 
in 1850 to Miss Margaret Baker in (of?) Tennessee and eleven children 
were born nine of them now living, they are Mrs. G. G. Dalby and 
Mrs. Bell Black, Elk Prairie: Mrs. J. D. Reynolds and John Boswell, 
Centralia: Mrs. George Davis, Dix: Mrs. Gus  Carpenter, Howell: 
Sam P. Boswell, Stuttgart, Ark: Wm. H. Boswell, Almyra, Ark.  
Mr. Boswell was a soldier in the Civil War and was a first lieutenant 
in 60th Illinois.  He was one of the best known citizens in the city 
and spent most of his life in this county.  The funeral will be held 
at Hickory Hill church Saturday, April 7th at 10 a.m."
