AN AGED LADY CALLED HOME - Mrs. Dicey Jane Dalby An Early Settler Dead
Came To This County From Tennessee 64 Years Ago - Was Buried Thursday
Mrs. Dicey Jane Dalby who reached her 88th birthday on the 22nd of this
month was called to her reward Wednesday night. She was with her daughter,
Mrs. Martha ALLEN, in the Cub neighborhood when her earthly sufferings were
relieved.
Mrs. DALBY came to this county sixty-four years ago from Bedford County,
Tennessee, with her husband and the family settled in Elk Prairie where
they became one of the best known in the county. The name of DALBY and
Elk Prairie are almost synomomous. She is survived by five sons:
E. B., G. G., Ben H., Grant, and S. H. DALBY and two daughters Mrs. Martha ALLEN
and Mrs. Mary E. COLE, all residents of the county. Her husband preceeded her
to the Great Beyond in 1880. (Benjamin Henry Yandell Dalby died November 11, 1877.)
The funeral service was conducted at Hickory Hill Thursday afternoon and the
remains were tenderly laid away by kind hands and loving friends many of whom
had been blest by her tender administrations.
