DEATH OF GEORGE HILL 
An Old and Highly Respected Citizen Passes Away 

George Hill, one of the oldest residents of Jefferson county, died at his home 
in Shiloh township, about three miles and a half northwest of town, at 9 o'clock 
last night, after a lingering illness. 

Deceased was born in Beaver county, Penn., Sept. 4th, 1813, where he resided 
until he was ten or twelve years of age, when he moved with his parents to Mahoning 
county, O, locating near the city of Youngstown, where he remained till December, 1853, 
when he emigrated to Illinois and settled in  Jefferson county. When a young man, Mr. 
Hill learned the machinist's trade and was engaged in the iron trade at Youngstown for many years. 

In 1832, when only 19 years of age, he was married to Miss Hannah Harriet Hull, 
of Mahoning county. Of this union six children were born, all of whom died when quite young. 
His first wife having died some time previously he was married to Miss Julia Woolford in Trumball 
county, O, in 1853, and in the winter of the same year came to Jefferson county and engaged in farming. 
Of the second marriage nine children were born, of whom Sanford, Mrs. Reece Sheperd and 
Miss Maggie Hill are the only survivors. He leaves a wife and three children, ten grandchildren, 
seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren to mourn his death. 

His funeral will take place at Pleasant Grove church at 12:30 tomorrow, Rev. J. C. Kinnison 
conducting the obsequies. The interment will be at Pleasant Grove cemetery, near which the 
deceased had so long resided.
