DEATH OF AGED LADY LAST WEEK
Martha F. Vance Roberson was born in Smith County,
Tenn. Aug. 20th, 1830, and departed this life
February 11, 1918, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and
21 days. December 12th, 1845, she was united in marriage
to John C. Roberts who died January 20th, 1896. To this
union five children were born. Four girls and one boy as
follows: Mary J. McLaughlin, Leatha Oliver, James Roberts,
Lutitia Black and Almira Black. In November 1899, she was
again married to Elbert Roberson who survives.
She united with the Christian church in 1862, and remained
very faithful to the end.
She leaves a husband, four children, twenty-six grandchildren
and sixteen great grandchildren and many friends to mourn her loss.
Funeral services were conducted by George F. Murray at Hickory Hill
where her remains were laid to rest.
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our hearts
Which never can be filled.
